Meet the Artist

A freelance artist, writer, and copy editor residing near the ocean in South Portland, Maine, Koren graduated from Southern Maine Community College with a fine art degree. Her artwork consists mainly of jewelry and small sculpture. Koren has lived in beautiful Southern Maine for over 30 years, despite an extreme aversion to the horrors of winter. She finds inspiration in sunshine, music, literature, and everyday conversations with people she meets.

Artist Statement

I embrace the fun and the funky. I love getting twisted and a little weird. Whether it’s sculpture or jewelry, my pieces often reflect distinct emotions, songs, phrases, or conversations with people I’ve met. My influences are an eclectic variety of literature and music... there’s no telling from where the next piece’s inspiration will spring.

I enjoy making art the most when I dive into a piece without a firm idea of where it’s taking me. The personality of the work slowly emerges with each lick of the flame... each flick of the blade. I love watching the metamorphosis of a ray of light, sheet of metal, or chunk of wood as it takes shape into something that was hiding just below the surface.
